broers?
In september 1917, verloor een moeder en vader haar drie zonen die vochten aan de Ieperboog. George Ross, Theodore Leslie en William Keith waren aan de Ieperboog toen zij werden gedood door een artillerie granaat. Zij waren de zonen van William George & Fanny Isabel Ross. Op de foto zien we van links naar rechts Private Theodore Leslie Seabrook, 2 Lieutenant William Keith Seabrook en Private George Ross Seabrook.
George Ross was de oudste en werd geboren op 17 april 1892 te Grafton in het Nieuw-Zuid-Wales in Australië. Hij deed schilderen als beroep en ging het Australisch leger als private. Hij werd ingedeeld in de Charlie Company van de 17th Battalion Australian Infantry Forces.
Theodore "Theo" Leslie werd geboren op 17 mei
1893 te Marrickville in Nieuw-Zuid Wales in Australië en was bij de brandweer. Ook hij ging het Australisch leger in als private en werd ook ingedeeld in de Charlie Company van de 17th Battalion Australian Infantry Forces.
William Keith werd geboren op 24 maart 1896 te Bulli
in Nieuw-Zuid Wales in Australië en was telefonist. Hij ging het Australisch leger in als Second Lieutenant en werd net zoals zijn broers ingedeeld in de Charlie Company
van de 17th Battalion Australian Infantry Forces.
Wat er precies gebeurde is voor mij nog niet zeker. Via getuigenissen kon ik meerdere mogelijkheden
vast stellen, maar ik ga ervan uit naar het volgende.
Want dit is het meest voorkomende getuigenis.
George en Theodore waren nog achter het front in rust
terwijl William dienst had nabij Glencorse Wood,
ten zuiden van Polygon Wood. Georges en
Theodore werden nadien naar het front
gestuurd naar hun broers om de Charlie
Company te vervoegen. Wanneer ze de Menin Road bereikten te Hellfire Corner, de rotonde
Ieper (Noord) - Ieper (Zuid) - Geluveld - Zillebeke -
Zonnebeke, werden ze geraakt door een
granaatinslag en beiden stierven ter plaatse.
Dit gebeurde op 20 september 1917.
Ze werden ter plaatse begraven en hun
lichamen werden nooit terug gevonden.
Zij staan vermeld op de Menenpoort op
paneel 17.
William zou tijdens een aanval op Anzac House, nabij het kruispunt Grote Molenstraat en de Lotegatstraat ten zuiden van Zonnebeke en ten westen van Polygon Wood, gewond zijn geraakt op 19 september en werd afgevoerd naar de N.10 Casualty Clearing Station (N.10 C.C.S) in het evacuatiehospitaal te Poperinge en stierf twee dagen latert aan zijn verwondingen. Hij werd begraven op het Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery te Poperinge, op plot XXIII, rij B onder graf 5.

Who are the Seabrook brothers?
In September 1917, a mother and a father lost three sons who fought in the Ypres Salient. George Ross, Theodore Leslie and William Keith were at the salient when they were killed by an artillery shell. They were the sons of William George & Fanny Isabel Ross. In the photo we see from left to right Private Theodore Leslie Seabrook, 2nd Lieutenant William Keith Seabrook and Private George Ross Seabrook.
George Ross was the eldest and was born on April 17, 1892 at Grafton in New South Wales in Australia. He did painting as a profession and entered the Australian army as a private. He was assigned to the Charlie Company of the 17th Battalion Australian Infantry Forces.
Theodore "Theo" Leslie was born on 17 May 1893 in Marrickville in New South Wales in Australia and was in the firebriagde. He also enlisted the the Australian army as a private and was also assigned to the Charlie Company of the 17th Battalion Australian Infantry Forces.
William Keith was born on March 24, 1896 at Bulli in New South Wales in Australia and was telephonist. He joined the Australian Army as Second Lieutenant and was just like his brothers assigned to the Charlie Company of the 17th Battalion Australian Infantry Forces.
What exactly happened is still uncertain for me. Through witnesses I have several options, but I'm assuming to the next. Because this is the most abundant testimony.
George and Theodore were still behind the front while William was on duty near Glencorse Wood, south of Polygon Wood. Georges and Theodore were subsequently sent to the front to their brother to joins the Charlie Company. When they reached Hellfire Corner on the Menin Road, the roundabout on the Menin Road to Ypres (North) - Ieper (South) - Geluveld - Zillebeke - Zonnebeke, they were hit by a shell and both died there. This happened on September 20, 1917. They were buried near
Hellfire Corner and their bodies were never found.
They are commemorated on the Menin Gate
on panel 17.
William was wounded during an attack on
Anzac House, near the crossroad
Big Molenstraat and Lotegatstraat south of
Zonnebeke and west of Polygon Wood on 19 September 1917, and he was transported to the N.10 Casualty Clearing Station (CCS N.10 ) in the evacuation hospital in Poperinge and died of his injuries two days. He was buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery in Poperinge, on plot XXIII, row B under grave 5.
